Video Title: The Devastated Animals
Producer: Anna Lai
I chose to present my awareness pieces in a video cartoon form because cartoons appeals to people of all age groups, even to the kids, and they are easy to understand. I plotted the story and had invited my family to be one of the characters. The story starts with a beautiful sunny day, where the animals enjoy their life. The bird and the deer picked up the man-made disposal that the humans have left in the forest. The frog intended to swim, but she died because the water was toxic to her. Then, the pig told the crowd that humans had come to the forest and discovered a rich oil reserve in their forest. Therefore they have decided to develop the land. The people cut the trees and set up equipment in the woods, and they even use the river a way to dispose wastes. In the last scene, the animals found out that their home, the forest has turned into residential buildings and industrial factories for humans, which are not suitable for them anymore. The bird died because the humans had released untreated air pollutant into the air. At last, the deer yelled to “claim refugee status”.
The animals are made to be the protagonist of the story because they are the innocent victims of the human activities. They are living creatures just like humans, but they cannot speak up for themselves. The yelling to claim refugee status is very ironic because only human can claim a refugee status. Animals who are affected by climate change can do nothing to save themselves. For example, the The frog died in the first scene because of the water pollution; the bird passed away the third scene because of air pollution. This is an illustration of what is happening around the globe. The air quality around the world has decreased especially in the developing countries where most of the factories are located. Air, water, noise, light, and many kinds of pollution are done to the Earth. For instance, the air in Beijing, China, and Dehli, India are described as “non-inhalable”, and people ought to wear masks on street, not to mention the serious water pollution in Bangladesh because of the garment industry. Development has to balance with the ecological system. It is a call for the environment. humans has destroyed the homeland of many animal inhabitants, created a hole in the ozone layer, and caused global warming. Under the ecological globalization, countries are closely connected to each other in terms of environment. The number of environmental refugees is expected to grow higher in the future, and millions may be displaced, which are even worse than political refugees. The world will be inhabitable to humankind soon, as it the drawback come back to the environmental pollution if we don’t start to make changes.
